Learning to Rest

Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves begin to change, the weather gets cooler, and the fashion is just right. Plus, it always feels magical with the holidays right around the corner. This year however, I’m taking this time to relearn how to rest.

I know, I know… What in the world does that mean?

As this year has progressed, I forgot all about taking a step back from growing an empire. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had the best time meeting new friends, growing a practice, and sharing my words with the world. Yet at the end of it all, it’s taken a toll.

Rest can be about self-care, but I think for me now, it’s deeper and I need to be aware of how it shows up.

For self-care, you know your girl is spending as much time as possible outside in the Georgia (heat) sun and staying close to home. I have a new love and appreciation for my home and what it offers me in terms of recharging. My little family and I have also gone to a few parks we never thought of exploring before and it’s been so fun and wonderful!  Our own little corner of the world sure holds a lot of surprises since we are still not traveling as much as we once did.

As for rest… I’m still learning what that looks like. Is it more sleep? Saying no to new projects? Restricting how many clients I see in a week? I’m not sure, but I’m enjoying figuring it out.

Here’s a few things to keep in mind this Fall:

  • Are you feeding your soul with things that make you smile? No matter how small?
  • How are you staying connected with others?
  • Working out is fun and all, but many think it’s only to be done at a gym. Nope! How are you moving your body and staying active? Any new ways call out to you if you don’t feel comfortable going to a work out in a class/gym?
  • Are you limiting your time consuming media? With everything going on it’s important to stay connected and in the know, but at what cost? Make sure you are monitoring how much you consume.
  • Here’s a fun thing to add to your list of self-care items: Watch What We Do In The Shadows on Hulu. You’ll thank me, I promise.

There’s a lot going on, but please do yourself a favor and show yourself kindness. We can create change in this world together. We just need to make sure our tanks are full to keep us going.
